On the Website Today

Every School Day, we will send out via the 'School App' and post here what is new on the Website each day.

On the Website Today – July 15th 2020

Mrs Lucas has posted a video about our fifth and final core Christian Value at St Mark’s – ‘perseverance’.  Certainly it feels like we have all had to really persevere through the second half of this academic year with all that we have contended with the school closure and pandemic concerns.  If you can, please take time to watch the perseverance video as a family:

https://stmarkssomerset.primarysite.media/media/our-school-values-perseverance

Thank you to all the children who have written to their new teachers to introduce themselves and share a few facts about themselves the teacher may not know.  On each year’s Home Learning Page is the email address parents can use for your child to write or attach their letter.  Please ensure all letters arrive by the end of the day on Friday 17th July 2020.

Virtual Sport’s Week 2020

The Home Sport’s Week Activities that have been sent have now been made into two wonderful videos.  Thank you for your wonderful sporting activity and for everyone’s effort in videoing and sending in the clips to us.  Also, the results of which classes won the different Interactive Sport’s Day events are also announced in three other videos. How did your class do? Watch the videos here:

On the Website Today – July 14th 2020

As the school year begins to draw to an end this week, we have been very much thinking of each one of our pupils, whether at home or school.

We hope you have had time to watch the ‘goodbye videos’, ‘the hello videos’ and the ‘parent’s welcome videos’ that the teachers have posted on each year group’s Home Learning Page.

On the Home Learning Page is also the email address parents can use for your child to write a letter to their new teacher introducing themselves and describing a few facts that their teacher may know not know about them.  Thank you to all those who have so far written in – we look forward to receiving more!

On the Website Today – July 13th 2020

Last week the teachers produced goodbye videos for their current class and a welcome video for their new class.  In each welcome video, the teachers asked the children to write them a letter and in it to describe two things the their teacher may not know about them.  Please could the letters be emailed to the teachers (you may wish to simply take a photo of the letter and attach it).  Younger children may prefer to draw a picture.  The email addresses have now been placed on each Year Group’s Home Learning Page (links below).

As we have been unable to hold our annual parents’ meetings where teachers introduce themselves and explain some of the key features of life in your child’s new year group, the teachers have also made a welcome video for parents.  Links to this is also on the Home Learning pages.  If you have more than one child, you will notice that the slides after the teachers’ welcome are quite similar but please watch both as information specific to each Year group is contained within them.

Finally, please find this week’s Home Learning Plans and resources to accompany them on each Year Group’s Home Learning Page:

Today, ‘Welcome’ videos from your child’s new class teachers have been uploaded – this includes introducing other staff who will work with the children and a short tour of their classroom.  The teachers are very excited to be welcoming the children into their classrooms in September.  Each teacher has mentioned in their video two facts about themselves that the children may not know.  Over the weekend, it would be great if each child could think about a couple of facts they would like to share with their teacher and write a short letter to introduce themselves or draw a labelled picture.  Next week we are encouraging the children to send a photo of the letter and picture via email to a special email address that has been set up for each teacher; these will be shared with you on Monday.

At the beginning of last week Mrs Bath also made a video which may have been missed by some of you.   This video covered the following topics:

  • If you have been helping others and letting your light shine, we would love to hear about it.  Please send photos or a video clip to LYLS@stmarks.bwmat.org.   It has been great to see the many impressive activities you have been up to.

  • The video announced two new St Mark’s babies.  Mrs Owen our breakfast leader had a baby boy – Casper. Mrs Cook our Year 1 teacher had a baby boy – Oliver.  Such wonderful news.  Congratulations to them both and their families.

Breakfast Club Arrangements from September:

In order to, give you as much notice as possible, Mrs Bath wanted to let you know that we will be operating our breakfast club from Wednesday 2nd September from 7:30 am each school day. I know that for many of our working parents that this will be a welcomed piece of information! Each year group will have their own table at breakfast club and the children will only eat alongside and then play alongside the children within their year group bubble. Further details to follow.

Spelling Shed and Active Learn activities:

Thank you for the feedbackrom some of you about Spelling Shed and Active Learn.  We have been experiencing some technical issues with both these online learning platforms and are in contact with the providers.  We know that many educational providers have been upgrading their systems recently.  Spelling Shed has been the most problematic, especially with sound issues.  If you have experienced problems, please log back in before the end of the week when we hope some of the issues will have been ironed out.  Most platforms run better if you access them via Google Chrome.

Over the next two weeks,  your class teacher will be making family phone calls again to all children not coming into school.   Whilst some teacher’s will be phoning on the school phone, most teachers will be phoning on their mobiles and the number may appear as ‘private number’ or ‘unknown number’ or ‘number withheld’.

We have three special items on the website today we would encourage you to watch as a family.

The first is Mrs Lucas’ wonderful retelling of the story of Pentecost.  Pentecost was celebrated in churches last Sunday and tells the story of when God sent the Holy Spirit – the symbol of which is flames which we see on our St Mark’s logo. Watch it here:

Wishing you a great Term 6.

On the Website Today – May 22nd 2020

Wow!  We have made it to the end of Term 5 and a whole Term of Home Learning!

All the teachers at St Mark’s want to say a great big ‘Thank You’ to you as parents for all your hard work supporting your child with their Home Learning.  We have all been on a challenging learning curve but parents especially.  You as parents make the biggest difference to your child’s life and will always be their best and most important teacher (with or without a school closure).  So …. Thank you!!

Over half term the school will be closed, all the staff will be enjoying some downtime from school work and we want you as families to have a good, well-deserved break from Home Learning too.  There will only be essential updates to the website over half term (i.e. Government announcements, Term 6 Week 1 Home Learning Plans, potential further details for back to school arrangements etc). We will notify you of any changes we believe it is important for you to see via the School App.  We will not be uploading teacher’s videos but will back for a fresh start in Term 6.

All staff this week in school have had a refresher in Health and Wellbeing Training for children led by Mrs Davis.  Parent’s and children may find these videos ‘Dr Radha’s wellbeing tips’ on the BBC Children in Need website useful to watch.  They are short but packed with lots of top tips:

Have a good week everybody.

On the Website Today - VE Day 75th Anniversary Celebrations

Good morning children and parents,

Today we at St Mark’s, alongside the whole country, Europe and many other countries in our wider world celebrate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day.  We hope at home you can find a way to celebrate with us.

Many of you will know or have seen Reg Charles who attends our annual Remembrance Service. He is grandfather to Mrs Watter’s and Mr Harding, and great grandfather to Kacey, Izzy and Oliver. During the war, his battalion helped liberate France and Belgium from German occupation which then swiftly brought the war to an end.

At St Mark’s we wanted to honour Reg’s service to our country and his heroism and so have had a special banner made from all of us that will be put up today outside of his home.  He will have had a big surprise when he opened his curtains!!   As we honour Reg, we also remember and honour each and every service man and woman who served our country during World War 2 so we can celebrate the freedom we have today.

Please take a look at the banner on our special VE Day page on the Home Learning Area:

https://www.saintmarks.co.uk/ve-day-celebrations/

On this page you can also read more about Reg’s life, his time in the army and his memories of the end of the war.

Mrs Lucas has also put together a special VE Day celebration video form all the staff to everyone at home.  Watch it here:

https://stmarkssomerset.primarysite.media/media/cheers-on-ve-day-from-all-the-staff-at-st-marks

Finally, please send us any photos of you enjoying VE Day Celebrations at home. We would love to see them and will feature them on the website.  Email details on the VE Day Celebrations page.

Wishing you a memorable VE Day.
