In Topic, we have been learning about the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb so we can become newspaper reporters and write an article about the discovery. Before we wrote, we took part in some drama. We imagined what it would be like to be Howard Carter peering into the tomb for the first time through a tiny hole. As a class, we imagined the scene in front of us and described items to each other. We also created freeze frames to show how the discovery was made, either of the waterboy tripping over the step or of them uncovering the steps. Finally, in pairs we pretended to be Howard Carter pleading with Lord Carnarvon to continue to pay for the dig. We loved jumping into the story and becoming the characters we were writing about.
