 Virtual Sports Week Activities

Miss Owen tells us all about our virtual Sports Day

Get Back Up Again

                                                                                                                        19th June 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

As you may be aware, Sports Week would have been coming up soon but, with the current circumstances, we are unfortunately unable to run it as normal. We have thought hard about what we could do instead this year and have decided to run a ‘Virtual Sports Week’ involving a range of different activities for the children to participate in at home from Monday 29th June – Friday 3rd July.

There will be a video on the website shortly of our usual sports week song which we learn a ‘Jumpstart Johnny’ style routine to. Your child can have a go at learning this at home if they wish. If they do, it would be great if you could send a video (no more than 30 seconds) of your child performing the dance to us so we can include them in a montage of clips that will go on the school website for Sports Week. Please can you send them by Thursday 25th June at 3pm to or if the file is too large to be sent via email, you can send them securely via By sending us your clips you are consenting to have them uploaded to the school website. If your child is finding the routine difficult to learn, you could send in a clip of them doing some freestyle dance which we could add instead. An audio file of the song will be available from the school website alongside the video.

We have created a poster containing a wide range of sporting activities which can be done at home. Some are individual challenges, some are paired, and some will involve the whole family. You may take part in as many of these as you like and can adapt them to suit the equipment and space that you have at home. Example videos for all the activities listed on the poster will be added to the school website by the beginning of Sports Week. Alongside taking part in these activities for fun, we are also running an inter-class competition. The following activities are included in this competition:

  • Speed bounce
  • Egg and spoon
  • Standing long jump
  • How many jumps/skips?
  • Wall sit

To take part, you will need to find the inter-class competition link under the project section of your child’s home learning plan for Term 6 Week 5. This will take you to a form that you will need to fill in to submit your scores. You can enter the scores at any point during Sports Week (week commencing 29th June). Please ensure your scores are submitted by 3pm on Friday 3rd July so that we can announce phase winners the following week. You can also send a 30 second video of your child or family completing a challenge to be made into a montage video, which will be posted on the website alongside the winner announcements. Please send these clips to the same email- by Friday 3rd July at 3pm and ensure that you include your child’s class and the name of the activity in the subject box of the email. Again, if you have a larger clip, please send it in via By sending us your clips, you are consenting to have them uploaded to the school website.

As we would normally do at school during Sports Week, each year group will represent a different country. Throughout the week your child’s home learning will be themed around this country. Watch the opening ceremony video which will be uploaded to the website next week to find out your child’s country.

Finally, we would love to see your child’s creative talents as well as their athletic ones so if they would like to, they can take part in our St Mark’s Mascot competition. They can create their very own St Mark’s Mascot for Sports Week. There will be a template available to download from the school website for them to use if they wish to. If your child would like to share their mascot and enter the competition it can be sent in via Please ensure that your child’s entry and the email subject box is clearly labelled with their name and class. A winner will be chosen from each year group and the best of these winners will be used as the St Mark’s Mascot for next year’s Sports Week. All the winning designs will be shared on the website along with the child’s first name and year group.  Please could you ensure you send these in by Friday 3rd July at 3pm

We hope the children will enjoy participating in all aspects of our ‘Virtual Sports Week’ this year and we look forward to seeing all of their wonderful work.

Yours sincerely,

Miss Owen
